In Which I Briefly Discuss Last Week’s Jason Isbell Show

Karl and I headed out to Off Broadway last week to catch Jason Isbell and the 400 Unit. John Henry & The Engine opened the show by playing a stripped down set and a solid cover of The Replacements’ “Can’t Hardly Wait”. There was a decent sized, but very enthusiastic crowd for Isbell. He played stuff from all of his solo albums and choice Drive-by Truckers songs, including the highlight of the evening “Goddamn Lonley Love”. It was easily one of the best shows I’ve seen in months and it was especially fun to hear their take on the Talking Heads’ classic “Psycho Killer”.

The Dive Poets Live on KDHX (Friday, November 20th)

Tune in between 10 and noon on Friday the 20th to Pat Wolfe’s “Interstate” on KDHX.  We will be promoting that evening’s show at the Firebird as well as playing some live tunes in studio.  Should be a monumental day for the Dive Poets.

Well, we made it to Columbia and back in one piece.

Ten thousand thank yous to the Blue Fugue for letting us dominate their stage for an evening. We had so much fun, and it was certainly a fine night and place to have our first out of town show. And people were dancing! Columbia rules! We would also like to thank their drink specials for us ending up at a cool diner eating Columbia’s version of slingers…

Hopefully we will be back that way sooner than later.

Some News… and a Show

So we have some pretty significant news coming out of The Dive Poets corner of the internet… We had a band meeting a few weeks ago and for a number of reasons, Rachel has decided to leave the band. We wish her the best and support her in all of her future endeavors (you can occasionally catch her playing in The Who Band around town).

In other news, we are going to be soldiering on as 5-piece (we were actually a 6-piece for a few months there) and have a show TOMORROW NIGHT in COLUMBIA, MO at The Blue Fugue (formerly known as Music Cafe). Cover is $5 and we will go on sometime between 10 and 11 pm.
