So, all of the bands have been revealed for this year’s Under Cover Weekend Lineup. An Under Cover Weekend is a 3-night event at The Firebird “celebrating the best music of the past played by STL’s best bands of today”. We are playing on the second of three nights (on Saturday, September 5th) , and here is the lineup for our night, in reverse chronological order:

I like how smoothly this guy’s voice rolls over Radiohead’s “No Surprises”. Seriously. No snark… I think he does the song justice. Nice job on the bridge… if you check out his other videos he does a solid cover of Keane’s “Everybody’s Changing”.

A singer you should know

The name Minnie Riperton may not ring a bell at first, but I am sure you have heard this song:

That’s Minnie Riperton.   She was a soul singer whose career was tragically cut short when she died of breast cancer at the young age of 31.

Minnie was a great artist and I hope her memory lives on forever.   Whenever I am having a bad day, I can always count on her music to cheer me up.

fun fact of the day – comedian Maya Rudolph is Minnie’s daughter.

Those folks that know me know I go nutso for good barbecue. I don’t mean grilling (I like that, too), but time honored, slow cooked regionally diverse goodness.

Here is a song about barbecue, and it generally nails all of the regional eccentricities and variations, all to a snazzy bluegrass tune.
